Since 1998 Pendennis Shipyard has welcomed over 140 local young people, aged 16-19, to enroll on their general apprenticeship scheme. This provides an excellent opportunity to learn a trade and work towards official qualifications, whilst providing Pendennis with a rich pool of skilled and qualified labour. 
Drettmann has stood for a successful business in new construction and sales of pre-owned boats. With the global financial crisis, sales simultaneously bottomed out in both of business fields. This resulted in insolvency proceedings introduced at the end of May. Now the German company based in Bremen steers into calmer waters. 
Endeavour Yacht Services, based at Gosport in Portsmouth Harbour, have recently achieved their ISO 9001 certification, in recognition of the procedures and processes in place for quality assurance. The experienced professional team at Endeavour Yacht Services provide refit, maintenance and repair services. 
Gulf Craft Inc., the Middle East and Asia’s manufacturer of yachts, has announce that it has appointed The Mansell Agency to handle all European public relations activity. Founded in The United Arab Emirates in 1982, Gulf Craft today produces vessels ranging from 20 feet leisure craft and sports boats, to 135 feet luxury superyachts. 
Continuous innovation and a constant commitment to ensuring the very best quality in its yachts have always been part of the DNA of the Ferretti Group. This strategic aim has led to establishment of the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup, conceived and strongly wished for by Chairman Norberto Ferretti. 
As from the 1st of July Eel Kant (53 yrs) is the managing director of Jongert Shipyard BV. Immediately after his studies Kant began his career in the shipbuilding industry. After that he switched to yachtbuilding where he worked for 16 years with Royal van Lent (part of Feadship). From 2003 until 2010 Kant was the managing director of Oceanco. 
Each year, the Dutch Yachting industry (HISWA) invites the International press to the Netherlands to witness firsthand the different facilities, yachts under construction and future plans of the shipyards. This year when the press arrived at Oceanco, we were treated to a tour of two 85m yachts under construction. 
For nearly 40 years, the Garcias have been a reference in the world of integral centreboard aluminium cruising yachts. More than 300 Nouanni, Maracuja and Passoa series sailing boats are cruising all over the world, from the Arctic to the Antarctic. the Garcia shipyard has specialised in the building of custom sailing yachts from 50’ to 115’. 
Feadship’s Royal Van Lent shipyard has announced radical plans to expand its premises on Kaag Island. Due to the limited spatial options around the yard, Royal van Lent will extend underground in order to build even larger yachts. Like Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw, Royal van Lent has been building increasingly longer yachts over recent years. 
Oceanco has engaged Dirk de Jong to reinforce their Technical Sales Department. De Jong is no stranger to the company. He was a Project Manager with Oceanco from 1997-2001, during which time he oversaw the building of both the 62.6 metre Lady Lola and the 95 metre Al Mirqab (now Indian Empress). 
Colonna Yachts, a division of long standing Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. of Norfolk, Virginia have announce a major expansion with the opening of the new West Yard Marine Travelift Facility. Situated on approximately ten acres, this new facility will accommodate the simultaneous repair of up to 15 megayachts and deep draft sailing yachts. 
Nobiskrug GmbH and Messerschmitt Yachts GmbH are set to become partners. The scope of the cooperation encompasses engineering and construction of future Messerschmitt Yachts longer than 60 metres. The "MTT-Conqueror", available in a 70 metre and 90 metre version, is the first superyacht of this size designed by Messerschmitt Yachts. 
Abu Dhabi MAR, the international shipbuilding group based in Abu Dhabi, and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems have signed a contract for the sale of Blohm + Voss to Abu Dhabi MAR. The contract includes the acquisition of Blohm + Voss Shipyards in Hamburg and the civil shipbuilding facilities of the former HDW Gaarden including employees in Kiel. 
The Turkish shipyard Numarine announced yesterday that they have appointed Whale Yachts as their distributor for Russia. Whale Yachts, based in Moscow, will be representing the Numarine range for the first time at the Moscow Boat Show, which opens its doors tomorrow until 18th April 2010. 
Marine Group Boat Works de Los Cabos, a boat repair and drystack storage facility, is pleased to unveil its newly constructed multi-million dollar facility and announce that it is open for business. Located at The Marina at Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose del Cabo, the boatyard spans across 200,000 square feet of land and water. 
Horizon announces to reveal its new brand logo and new website image effective from 2010. Since 2009, even with the global yacht market still in a recession, Horizon has been investing and implementing a series of Horizon brand re-engineering programs to enhance the global image of Horizon. 
The Greece based superyacht painting company Thraki Yacht Painting has announced the opening of a new office in Istanbul, Turkey under the name Thraki Yat Sanayi Ltd St. Thraki aim to build a permanent team in Turkey, which will combine the expertise and experience of the Northern European projects with the skillful labour in Turkey. 
Tricon Marine has been selected by the Chinese government to join a high-level delegation presenting to local businessmen and women in Boston. Led by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Zhuhai Investment Promotion Bureau, the presentation shines a spotlight on the region’s most notable business success stories. 
Plymouth-based luxury yacht builder Princess Yachts International, today presented plans for the newly occupied South Yard site at a consultation with Devonport Regeneration Community partnership (DRC). The plans represent a significant contribution to the local economic regeneration and outline a £15m investment programme. 
The Mariotti Shipyard in Genoa has announced the creation of Mariotti Yachts, a brand formerly known as Admiral Mariotti Yachts and a partnership between Cantieri Navale Lavagna and the Mariotti Shipyard. The new brand is 100% owned by the Mariotti Shipyard and the company has invested more than EU 9,000,000 in new facilities. 
This spring Derecktor Shipyards will put its’ newly expanded dry dock to work. The dock will allow the yard to fully service vessels up to 4000 long tons, 122 meters in length, 25 meters in beam and 6 meters draft.

In November Viareggio gave a warm welcome to the hull of the first Benetti Delfino, which will be launched in the summer of 2010. With its dimensions, it is a unique vessel because it contains the design solutions, technical equipment, and practical, comfortable environments that are typical of larger ships. 
The International Superyacht Society awarded Frans Heesen the 2009 Business Person of the Year Award. This award acknowledges the contributions of business leaders who have helped develop yachting into the global financial powerhouse that it is today. The recipient of this Award was chosen by the members of the ISS Board of Directors. 
In 1983, the Ursa Shipyard was built in Tuzla, Istanbul, to undertake the maintenance and repair of small and medium-size yachts. With a huge investment programme, the Ursa shipyard is being transformed into an advanced technology facility dedicated to the construction and refitting of the world’s finest superyachts. 
Businessman Heiner Tamsen takes over the insolvent SMG Werft and leads the shipyard from Rostock, together with the present employees, into a new era for shipbuilding and services. The well equipped shipyard will be a guarantor in the future for highly innovative ship building and will provide solutions to future technological maritime innovations. 
As from June 2009, ISA - International Shipyards Ancona, has a new travel lift available for the slipway and launching of ships weighing up to 400 tons. Yet another important service offered by the Ancona based shipyard's After Sales & Refit unit. The travel lift makes for great flixibility and operative efficiency. 
Having recently launched the 65 metre Silver Angel (FB247) and the 59 metre Lady Lara (FB243), Benetti is pleased to announce more good news as they have delivered no-less than 12 superyachts and sold 5 new superyachts, including the first 140ft superyacht from the Benetti Crystal line, over the last few months. 
Performance Yachts has announced the expansion of its range and appointed Azzura Marine, the premier Australian boat builder, as constructors of the PY-115 model, and its new flagship, the PY-125. The PY-115 and PY-125 will be built at Azzura Marine’s impressive superyacht new build and repair/ refit facility in Newcastle. 
ISA Yachts recently launched a new and improved website, which includes animation, new photos, new sections and in-depth news about the Italian shipyard. The new website perfectly embodied the ISA corporate image, simple and elegant, in white and argent/grey. The biggest change to the previous website, are the Repair & Refit pages. 
Last week I was invited by Hakvoort Shipyard in Holland, for a tour of the yard and of the projects currently under construction, the YN245 and the YN243. This year, the shipyard is celebrating ninety years of continuous ownership by the same family. Purchased by the Hakvoort family in 1919, the original yard had been building vessels since the 1700s. 
Princess Yachts has signed the lease for a 15 acre waterfront site at South Yard, Plymouth. Part of the famous Devonport Naval base, this facility has been acquired to enable Princess to commence the construction of a new range of large yachts. The bespoke craft, which will be over 100 feet, are too large to be built in Princess’ existing manufacturing sites. 
Yesterday SuperYachtTimes.com visited the impressive facilities of Icon Yachts in Harlingen, Holland, where we were given a tour of hulls one and three by Wim Koersvelt. During our visit, Icon released several exciting new designs, for a platform of 85-110m superyachts. The intention is to use this platform for yachts up to 3000 GT. 
Today our editorial team visited the Royal van Lent Shipyard, part of the famous Feadship family. We were given a full tour of the Dutch yard, and of their various projects under construction (hulls 801, 803 and 804). The day ended with a delightful dinner cruise in Amsterdam on board the brand new Trident, hull 800. 
At Perini Navi’s Yildiz Gemi facility in Istanbul, two more blocks of the Picchiotti-Vitruvius Ice Class 55 meters have been turned upright. The bow sections that weigh in at at 48 tonnes, illustrate the unique hull form adopted by the Vitruvius design concept for this new genre of Picchiotti-branded motoryachts. 
These are busy times for the growing Turkish shipyard Troy Marine, as their 42 mt. expedition vessel Imbros is soon to be launched. With all the outfitting and installation of systems completed, the yacht is expected to be launched in two months time. With the interior awaiting the potential client's personal wishes the yacht is rare opportunity. 
Delta has combined its expertise in composite construction with steel and aluminum hull fabrication to open a new yard dedicated to metal hull construction. The new facility, Delta North, is located just down river from Delta’s current 25-acre site. The first hull to be built at Delta North is a 208-foot steel and composite expedition yacht. 
Arcadia Yachts is a new company, building yachts between 75’ and 175’. Their style is innovative, yet simple and clean. The yard is currently finishing their first yacht, the Arcadia 85, which is due for delivery next month. The yacht's deckhouse is constructed almost entirely out of double layered reflecting glass. 
Icon CEO Wim Koersvelt worked closely with the Redman Whiteley Dixon creative team to achieve the best foundations for future owners and designers to build upon. As the first Icon 62 is launched this year, with Redman Whiteley Dixon exterior styling, the whole superyachting industry will be watching.

The masts for the 52m ketch Nazenin V being built at RMK Marine in Turkey have been delivered. The all carbon spar package has been produced by Southern Spars. Nazenin V’s spar package is made from prepreg standard modulus carbon fibre. The Main mast is a five spreader rig that stands at 59.69m tall. 
Danish Yacht and LISA Airplanes are pleased to announce their collaboration, in the first of their plans to develop new projects and provide additional benefits and initiatives to superyacht owners and captains. Danish Yacht and LISA Airplanes are exploring the market of combining superyachts and light airplanes. 
Sunrise Yachts, the superyacht yard founded by Herbert P. Baum and Guillaume Roché, is proud to announce two major achievements. Hull n. 0181 – now named Africa – has just been sold to a Swiss-based client with delivery scheduled June 2009. And the company has confirmed an exciting collaboration agreement with yacht designer Espen Oeino. 
The Abu Dhabi MAR Shipyard made its global debut at the recent Monaco Yacht Show where the Abu Dhabi MAR team revealed the latest details of the two spectacular gigayachts currently under construction at the all-new shipyard. At 141 and 135 metres LOA, they are among the world’s longest private yachts under construction. 
LVMH Moët Hennessy - Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury products group, has signed an exclusive agreement with Egeria, an investment company based in the Netherlands, to acquire Royal van Lent, the Dutch designer and builder of luxury custom megayachts sold under the Feadship brand. 
After a period of stormy weather, Jongert has now entered calm waters having significantly strengthened its capital base. An agreement with investment company VEP gives Jongert the financial clout to go forward with confidence in both the sail and motoryacht markets. Meanwhile, with three projects at various stages the future is bright indeed.
