Saturday, October 18th Perini Navi launched SY Baracuda, a 50m aluminium ketch. Designed by Perini Navi’s in-house team together with Ron Holland, SY Baracuda features many important project innovations. Following the launch of the 56 metre M/Y Romance and only a week after the launch of the 43 metre M/Y Rubeccan, CRN launched the fifth vessel of the CRN 128’ composite line: Lady Belmor. Overflowing with style and character the Terranova 115 (LOA: 35.05m) is the latest and largest offering in a range of three luxury ‘Explorer Style’ yachts, designed by Barracuda Yacht Design and built at Terranova’s ultra-modern 8,000m² covered facility. Last week the Lemwerder based shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen launched a new 78 metre superyacht. German superyacht photographer Ricardo Pilguj took the first photos of this blue hulled superyacht. Although Kathleen Anne and the first Feadship SL39, Ocean Mercury, are sisterships there are many differences between them. The Makkum yard of Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw, which opened in 2005, has completed its first full custom Feadship. The 75.75-meter (248’6”) Ocean Victory was launched on 18 October 2008 in the presence of hundreds of invited guests and following a spectacular laser show. Thursday 14 August 2008 saw the launch of the much anticipated 79m Lürssen Mad Summer (project Bermuda) and as of today the Espen Oeino designed yacht started her sea trials in the Baltic Sea. On monday Moonen launched Sofia, the second Moonen 97. The first Moonen 97, Darsea, was launched earlier this year by the Dutch yard. Though the two Moonen 97 are “sisterships,” they are far from “identical twins,” each being highly customized by their clients. Australian superyacht builder Oceanfast has launched the first of its new range of yacht - the 36 metre Eendracht, soon to be followed by a 48 metre currently under construction. Alloy Yachts has launched its latest superyacht, the 52m (170ft) flybridge ketch, Mondango, built for an international businessman and his wife. Mondango is a Dubois Naval Architects design.
