The Netherlands are well known for building high quality superyachts, but since last year we also have a specialized superyacht refit shipyard, Balk Shipyard in Urk. Although already established back in 1786 (!), it wasn’t until they moved from Elburg to Urk before they were noticed within the superyacht industry. 
Azzura Marine is fast establishing a solid reputation as the premier superyacht facility in the South Pacific region. Azzura Marine Newcastle is the group's fourth and most recent addition to its growing shipyard portfolio. Capable of building custom yachts up to 74m, the new facility also provides a complete refit and repair centre. 
In early September S.Y Adix returned to Pendennis for her 3rd major refit, the largest vessel to date at 64m to be lifted out using the 400 tonne travel hoist. On this occasion the yacht and her crew are undertaking a 6 month refit programme with Pendennis. Major work items include the repainting of her topsides and inner bullwarks. 
Al Shoua is the new shadow vessel to the recently completed Heywood designed superyacht Al Mirqab. Al Shoua arrived in Gibraltar on the 29th of July, three days after her 133m mother ship. Al Shoua was built by RYSCO in 1980 as the offshore service vessel Interceptor and converted by Shadow Marine under the project name Paladin Shadow II. 
The Stabbert Maritime Group has recently completed work on the Pacific Provider, the second successful conversion project for Yacht Escort Ships. Over the last year Stabbert Maritime has acted as the major contractor for Yacht Escorts Ships on the conversion of the 175’ SuRi and the 156’ Pacific Provider. 
Va Bene has just emerged from Pendennis after a 9 month multi million dollar refit. The refit has been heralded a complete success by the owner, his team and the yard. The 47.5m (156ft) motor yacht built in the Netherlands by Kees Cornelissen in 1992 has undergone an amazing transformation since arriving at the yard last September. 
New Zealand Yachts completes a year long refit on the world’s largest sailing catamaran Douce France. Every imaginable component on the sailing yacht was overhauled and brought back to near new standards. This included all mechanical items including all hotel services, engines, electrical, electronic, interior, etc. 
In March 2006 the US owner of Inevitable contacted De Vries Makkum with the request to refit his 1990 Feadship yacht Inevitable. A year before he had purchased the 51 meter yacht with the intention of rebuilding her to his own wishes. It was not his first big yacht, as he previously owned a 40 meter blue hulled Palmer Johnson yacht with the same name.
